Walk-In Tub Plumbing Installation in Oklahoma City, OK

Walk-in tub plumbing installation in Oklahoma City takes more than setting a new tub where the old one was. A walk-in tub needs the right drain, supply lines, hot water capacity and scald protection to fill fast, drain fast and stay safe. We handle the plumbing side, from pulling out the old tub to the final fill-and-drain test, so you or a loved one can bathe safely at home.

What's included in our walk-in tub plumbing installation in Oklahoma City

  • Pre-install review. We check the tub's spec sheet for drain location, fill volume, supply size and any electrical needs.
  • Old tub removal. Disconnecting and removing the existing tub or shower pan.
  • Drain work. Adjusting or relocating the drain and trap to match the new tub, with a properly sized line for a fast drain.
  • Supply lines and valve. New hot and cold supplies, a pressure-balancing or thermostatic valve and a temperature limit set for safety.
  • Hot water check. Confirming the water heater can fill the tub with hot water.
  • Testing. A fill-and-drain test of the door seal, drain speed and every connection.

Signs a walk-in tub may be the right choice

  • Stepping over a standard tub wall feels unsteady or unsafe
  • A family member needs help getting in or out of the tub
  • You want to stay in your home as mobility changes
  • A doctor or therapist has recommended a seated bathing option
  • You want warm soaks for sore joints without climbing down into a tub

Bathrooms are where a lot of injuries happen. A CDC study of 2008 data estimated that 234,094 nonfatal bathroom injuries among people 15 and older were treated in U.S. emergency departments, and 81.1 percent were caused by falls. Rates were highest in or around the tub or shower, and they rose with age.

Walk-in tub plumbing requirements

A walk-in tub works differently from a standard bathtub, and the plumbing has to keep up:

  • Fast fill. You get in before the tub fills, so slow filling means sitting in a cool tub. Larger supply lines and a high-flow valve help.
  • Fast drain. You stay seated until the water is gone, so drain size and venting matter. Many tubs offer a fast-drain option that needs the right drain connection.
  • Enough hot water. The tub's fill volume, from the maker's spec sheet, is compared with your water heater's capacity and recovery.
  • Scald protection. The CPSC says most adults suffer third-degree burns from 140°F water in six seconds, so a temperature-limiting valve protects the person in the tub.
  • Floor support. A full walk-in tub with a person in it is heavy. On raised floors, the framing should be checked before install.

Our walk-in tub installation process

  1. Measure and review. We measure the space, the doorway and the existing drain and supply locations, and compare them with the tub you are considering.
  2. Plan the work. We list plumbing changes, hot water needs and any electrical requirements so nothing waits on another trade.
  3. Remove the old tub. Water is shut off, the tub is disconnected and removed, and the opening is prepared.
  4. Rough-in changes. The drain, trap and supply lines are adjusted to the new tub's layout.
  5. Set and connect. The tub is leveled, which is critical for the door seal, and the drain, valve and faucet are connected.
  6. Fill-and-drain test. We fill the tub, check the door seal and connections, time the drain and set the temperature limit.

The CDC study's authors suggested non-slip strips and grab bars inside and outside the tub or shower as basic safety steps, and those are worth adding whichever option you pick. For other bathroom fixtures, see our plumbing fixture installation service.

What affects the cost of walk-in tub plumbing

  • Drain changes. Matching an existing drain is simpler than relocating one, especially through a slab.
  • Supply and valve upgrades. Larger supply lines and thermostatic valves add parts.
  • Hot water capacity. If the current heater cannot fill the tub, water heater replacement may be part of the project.
  • Access. Narrow doors, tight bathrooms and second-floor baths take more time.
  • Tub features. Jets, heaters and fast-drain systems can add plumbing and electrical work.

We price the plumbing after we see the bathroom and the tub you have chosen. Financing is available.

Walk-in tubs in Oklahoma City: local factors

Many Oklahoma City homes sit on slab foundations, which means the tub drain is set in concrete. If a walk-in tub's drain lines up with the existing one, the job is straightforward. If not, the slab has to be opened to move it, so we check the drain position before you buy. Homes with crawlspaces make drain changes easier but deserve a look at the floor framing under a heavy tub.

Falls are a real risk for older adults everywhere, and the CDC reports that more than one out of four older people falls each year. Oklahoma City treats plumbing as a trade permit and requires plumbing contractors to be licensed by the state and registered with the city, so the work is done by someone accountable for it. If hot water reaches the tub slowly because the bathroom is far from the heater, a hot water recirculation pump can help. You can read more about what we do on our home page.

Local, licensed and insured

Why Oklahoma City chooses us for walk-in tub installation

Since 1985

Plumbing know-how for a specialized fixture

Walk-in tubs hold a lot of water, need generous drains to empty quickly, and often call for a different valve and faucet than a standard tub. Our plumbing experience goes back to 1985, and our work is state-licensed. We read the tub's installation manual against your existing plumbing before the old tub comes out, so there are no surprises on install day.

4.9★

Patience with the people who will use it

A walk-in tub is often for a parent, a grandparent or someone recovering from surgery. We take time to explain how the door seal, fill and drain work, set the water temperature limit with the user in mind, and make sure the controls are easy to reach from the seat. Our 4.9-star rating from 88 Google reviews reflects that kind of care on jobs that matter to families.

2013

A local company you can call back

We have served Oklahoma City since September 22, 2013, and we answer 24/7. If a door seal weeps, a drain slows or the hot water runs short after the tub goes in, you can reach us at any hour. We are licensed and insured, we stand behind our work, and financing is available for larger accessibility projects like this one.

What our customers say

4.9 out of 5 from 88 Google reviews

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Walk-In Tub Installation questions, answered

Will my water heater be big enough for a walk-in tub?

Not always. Many walk-in tubs hold more water than a standard bathtub, and you sit inside while the tub fills, so running out of hot water partway is a real problem. We compare the tub's fill volume from the manufacturer's spec sheet with your water heater's capacity and recovery. If it falls short, a larger tank or a tankless heater can solve it.

Can a walk-in tub go where my old bathtub is?

Usually, yes. Many walk-in tubs are made to fit a standard tub alcove, but the drain location, the drain size and the supply valves often need changes. On a slab foundation, moving a drain means opening the concrete, so we check the tub's drain position against yours before you order the tub.

How do you prevent scalding in a walk-in tub?

We install or set a temperature-limiting valve on the tub supply so water at the spout cannot get dangerously hot. The CPSC urges people to set water heaters to 120°F and reports that most adults will suffer a third-degree burn from 150°F water in two seconds. It also says most tap water scald injuries and deaths involve older adults and young children.

Do walk-in tubs need electrical work?

Many do. Models with air jets, whirlpool jets or an inline heater need dedicated electrical circuits, often with ground fault protection. We handle the plumbing side, and a licensed electrician handles the wiring. We will tell you what your specific tub requires from its spec sheet, so both trades can be scheduled together and nothing waits.

Do I need a permit for walk-in tub installation?

Oklahoma City lists plumbing as a trade permit, and plumbing contractors must be licensed by the state and registered with the city. Whether your project needs a permit depends on what changes, such as moving a drain, altering supply lines or adding circuits. We take care of the plumbing permit when the job requires one.
