Water Leak Detection & Repair in Oklahoma City, OK

Our water leak detection in Oklahoma City finds the water you are paying for but cannot see: leaks inside walls, under floors, behind fixtures and in the buried line across your yard. We narrow it down with meter tests, pressure testing and listening equipment, then repair the pipe, opening only the spot where it actually failed. When a leak will not wait, we answer 24/7.

What's included in our water leak detection in Oklahoma City

Water leak detection is the work of finding a leak you cannot see and proving where it is before anything gets cut open. Our service covers the whole house and the line that feeds it:

  • Meter and fixture checks. We confirm water is being lost and rule out the easy culprits, such as running toilets and dripping valves.
  • Section-by-section isolation. We split the plumbing into hot, cold, indoor and outdoor sections and pressure-test each one.
  • Pinpoint location. Acoustic listening, moisture readings and thermal imaging narrow the leak to a small area.
  • Repair. We fix the failed pipe or fitting, usually on the same visit, through the smallest opening practical.

Signs of a hidden water leak

  • A water bill that rises while your habits stay the same
  • Stains, bubbling paint or soft drywall on a wall or ceiling
  • Warped or cupped flooring, or a musty smell in one room
  • The sound of running water inside a wall when nothing is on
  • A soggy spot in the yard, or one strip of grass that stays green in a dry spell
  • Lower water pressure than you used to have

Leaks are more common than most people think. EPA WaterSense reports that nine percent of homes have leaks wasting 50 gallons or more per day, and that a family of four using more than 12,000 gallons a month may have a serious leak.

How to check for a leak at your water meter

Before you call anyone, your meter can tell you a lot. Oklahoma City Utilities explains that if the long hand on the meter moves while no water is being used, you likely have a large leak. If only the small, flower-shaped indicator is turning, you may have a smaller one. Shut off every faucet, the ice maker and the irrigation system first, then look.

Check the toilets next. The city notes that toilet leaks are the most common cause of high water bills. Put a few drops of food coloring in the tank, wait 10 minutes, and look for color in the bowl. If it shows up, a worn flapper is the likely fix. If the toilets pass and the meter still moves, the leak is hidden, and that is our cue.

Underground Water Leak Detection for yard and service lines

A leak in the buried line between the meter and your house is one of the hardest to spot, because the clay can soak up a lot of water before anything shows on the surface. In Oklahoma City, the city owns the public service line from the main to the meter. The private service line from the meter to the house, and everything inside, belongs to the property owner.

To find an underground leak, we close the house valve and test the service line by itself, so we know the leak is outside. Then we listen along the pipe route with a ground microphone and mark the spot where the sound peaks. That lets us dig one hole instead of trenching the whole yard. If the line is old or has broken before, we will talk through water line repair and replacement instead of another patch. If you see water in the street, at the curb or in the meter box, the city asks you to report it to Utilities Customer Service.

Our leak detection and repair process

  1. Confirm the loss. We read the meter with everything off and check toilets, faucets and appliances.
  2. Isolate. We close valves to test the service line, the cold side and the hot side separately.
  3. Locate. Listening equipment, moisture meters and thermal imaging narrow the search.
  4. Show you. We mark the spot and explain what we think failed and why.
  5. Repair and retest. We open the smallest area practical, fix the pipe and pressure-test before closing up.

Leak detection methods compared

MethodWhat it tells usLimits
Meter and isolation testWhether water is being lost, and which section is losing itShows the section, not the exact spot
Pressure testingWhether a specific line holds pressureNeeds the line isolated first
Acoustic listeningThe point where escaping water is loudestHarder in noisy spaces or with deep, soft soil
Thermal imagingWarm paths from hot water leaks and cool, wet areas in wallsWorks best on hot lines and near the surface
Moisture meterHow far water has spread in drywall and flooringFinds the damage, not always the source

If the tests point under the concrete, see our slab leak detection and repair service for how we handle those.

What affects the cost of leak detection and repair

We price the job after we know what we are dealing with. Cost depends on how many sections must be tested, where the leak is (an open crawlspace, a finished ceiling or a buried line under a driveway), the pipe material, and how much drywall, flooring or soil has to be opened and restored. Financing is available for larger repairs.

Leaks in Oklahoma City homes: what we see

Leak calls in Oklahoma City follow the weather. Hard freezes crack pipes and fittings that do not start leaking until days later. Long dry summers shrink the clay around buried lines, then heavy rain swells it again, and that movement strains joints. Irrigation systems add their own share of hidden leaks at valves and buried laterals. The city's utility is plain about who handles leaks on private property: finding and fixing them promptly falls to the property owner.

The cheapest leak is the one caught early. A smart water shutoff valve can alert you to constant flow and close the main on its own. To learn more about who we are, visit our home page.

Why Oklahoma City chooses us for water leak detection

Since 1985

Testing before tearing out

Our plumbing experience goes back to 1985, long enough to know that the wet spot is rarely where the pipe broke. Water runs along framing, slabs and soil before it shows up. So we isolate the system one section at a time and confirm the location before anything gets cut. That approach saves drywall, flooring and lawns, and it is the way a Master Plumber is trained to work.

Licensed

We find it and we fix it

Some companies only locate leaks and leave the repair to someone else. We are licensed plumbers, so the same visit can cover finding the leak and repairing the copper, PEX, CPVC or galvanized pipe behind it. You get one call, one crew and one explanation of what failed, plus straight advice on whether the rest of that line is likely to follow.

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Water Leak Detection questions, answered

How do I know if I have a hidden water leak?

Watch for a water bill that climbs without a change in use, a meter that moves when nothing is running, damp spots or stains on walls and ceilings, warped flooring, a musty smell, or the sound of water in a wall. Outside, look for a soggy patch or a strip of grass that stays green in dry weather. Any of these is worth a leak check.

Can you find a leak without tearing out walls?

In most cases, yes. We isolate sections of plumbing, pressure-test them and listen for escaping water, which usually narrows the leak to a small area before anything is opened. When we do have to cut drywall or flooring, we open only the spot over the failed pipe so the patch afterward stays small.

Who is responsible for a leak between the meter and my house?

In Oklahoma City, the city owns the public service line from the water main to the meter, plus the meter itself. Everything from the meter to the house, plus the plumbing indoors, is the property owner's. A leak on your side of the meter is yours to repair. Water in the street or the meter box should be reported to the city.

Why is my water bill so high?

The city's utility says toilet leaks are the most common cause of high water bills, so test your toilets first with a few drops of food coloring in the tank. After that, check faucets, irrigation and the water heater. If the meter still moves with everything off, the leak is somewhere you cannot see, and that is where professional leak detection earns its cost.

Do you repair the leak or just find it?

Both. We are a licensed plumbing company, so once we find the leak we can usually repair it on the same visit, whether that means replacing a section of pipe in a wall, repairing a buried service line or fixing a failed fitting. If the line is old and leaking in several places, we explain repair versus replacement before you decide.
