Drain Cleaning & Clogged Drain Repair in Oklahoma City, OK

Our drain cleaning in Oklahoma City starts with one question: where exactly is the clog? A slow bathroom sink and a shower that gurgles every time the toilet flushes are very different problems. We find the blockage, clear it with the right tool, and tell you what caused it, so the same drain is not plugged again next month. We answer 24/7.

What's included in our drain cleaning in Oklahoma City

A clog is a symptom. Our job is to clear it and find out why it formed. Every drain call includes:

  • Locating the blockage. We run fixtures in a set order to tell a branch clog from a main line clog before any tool goes in the pipe.
  • Clearing the line. We use a cable machine with a cutting head sized to the pipe, from small hand augers for lavatories to heavy machines for the sewer.
  • Jetting when cable is not enough. Grease and sludge that a cable only pokes through get scoured off the pipe walls with water.
  • A camera look when it keeps coming back. Repeat clogs get a video inspection so we can see roots, breaks or sags.
  • A straight explanation of what caused it and how to keep it from happening again.

Signs you need drain cleaning

  • Water draining slowly from a sink, tub or shower, even after plunging
  • Gurgling from a drain when another fixture runs
  • Water coming up in the tub or shower when the toilet flushes or the washer drains
  • A sewer smell from a drain that is used every day
  • Standing water around a floor drain or the laundry standpipe
  • Toilets that clog often, even with normal use

Where the clog is tells you what it is

Each drain in a house has its own usual suspect, and knowing it saves time and money.

DrainUsual causeHow we clear it
Kitchen sinkGrease and food that hardens downstreamCable with a cutting head, then jetting if grease coats the pipe
Bathroom sinkHair, soap and toothpaste at the stopperPull and clean the pop-up, then a small cable
Tub and showerHair and soap scum in the trapSmall cable through the drain or overflow
ToiletWipes, too much paper, small toysCloset auger, or pull the toilet if it is lodged deep
Laundry standpipeLint and fabric fibersCable the line and check that the standpipe is sized right
Main sewer lineRoots, grease, wipes or a sag holding wasteLarge cable from the cleanout, then camera if needed

Floor drains are a special case. One in a laundry room or garage that smells but drains fine usually has a dry trap, and a bucket of water restores the seal. One that pushes water up, especially when the washer empties, sits low on the system and is warning you about a clog further down the main line.

Our drain cleaning process

  1. Ask the right questions. Which drains are slow, when it started and what was going down them tells us a lot before we arrive.
  2. Find the blockage. We test fixtures to pin down whether it is one branch or the main.
  3. Choose the access point. We work from a cleanout when there is one, so the cable reaches the clog instead of fighting the toilet's trap.
  4. Clear and flush. We open the line, then run plenty of water to prove it drains at full flow.
  5. Look if needed. If the cable comes back with roots, or the clog is a repeat, we run a camera.
  6. Leave it clean. We clean up and tell you what we found.

Every drain backing up at once?

Stop running water and call. A main line clog needs a plumber, not a plunger. We answer 24/7.

Clogged drain repair methods compared

MethodGood forLimits
PlungerA fresh clog in one toilet or sinkDoes nothing for a main line clog
Chemical drain openerWe do not recommend itCaustic, rarely reaches the clog, dangerous to the next person who opens the pipe
Cable machineMost clogs, including roots and wipesPunches a hole but can leave grease on the pipe walls
Water jettingGrease, sludge and root regrowthNeeds a camera check first on old or damaged pipe

When grease or roots keep closing a line, hydro jetting cleans the pipe wall instead of just opening a path. And when we need to see what is going on underground, a sewer camera inspection settles it.

What affects the cost of drain cleaning

  • Which line is clogged. A bathroom sink branch is a shorter job than a main sewer line.
  • Access. A clear cleanout makes the work faster. Without one, we may have to pull a toilet or work through a roof vent.
  • What the clog is made of. Hair clears quickly. Packed grease or heavy roots take more time and sometimes jetting.
  • Follow-up work. A camera inspection or root treatment adds to the visit.

We price the actual job after we see it, and financing is available for larger repairs.

Clogged drains in Oklahoma City: local factors

Grease is the biggest local offender. The City of Oklahoma City reports that more than one-third of sewer line blockages in the city are caused by fats, oils and grease, and it warns that the average kitchen disposer will not break grease down enough to prevent clogs. Hot grease goes down as a liquid, then cools and sticks to the pipe a few feet later.

Older neighborhoods have their own issues. Mature trees send roots into clay and cast iron sewer joints, and our sewer root removal service handles lines that keep filling with them. Shifting clay soil can leave a sag in a yard line where waste settles. The plumbing code calls for a quarter inch of fall per foot on smaller drain pipe, and lines that lost that slope clog more. Keep in mind that the City treats the private line from your house to its main as your responsibility.

Keeping drains clear between cleanings

  • Wipe greasy pans with a paper towel and put grease in the trash, not the sink.
  • Feed a garbage disposal slowly with cold water running. InSinkErator says coffee grounds and eggshells added all at once can clog restricted plumbing.
  • Flush only toilet paper. Wipes, even ones labeled flushable, are something we pull out of clogged toilet lines all the time.
  • Put a hair catcher in every tub and shower.

Why Oklahoma City chooses us for drain cleaning

24/7

Main line clogs, any hour

A backed-up main line never waits for business hours, and it usually picks a night when the house is full of guests. We answer 24/7, weekends and holidays included, and carry cable machines and cutting heads sized for everything from a bathroom sink to a four-inch sewer. If the clog can safely wait until morning, we will tell you that too.

Licensed

Experienced plumbers read the drain

Our team has worked in the plumbing trade since 1985, and our plumbers are licensed and insured. Clearing a drain is the easy part. Knowing why it clogged takes experience: a kitchen line laid with too little slope, a blocked vent, roots at an old clay joint, or a sag in the yard line. That knowledge keeps you from paying for the same clog twice.

After having issues with my bathroom and kitchen plumbing for a few days, I contacted Plumber Oklahoma City, OK Plumbing & Repair this morning. He told me he was very busy, but would work to schedule our repair in with his team.

These guys were great! A breath of fresh air from the usual contractor/service. They cared about fixing the problem not how much they can charge. I had a same day service need, leak in between floors, the day before a trip. They came out same day and presented multiple solutions as well as keen explanations.

Drain Cleaning questions, answered

How do I know if the main sewer line is clogged?

The giveaway is more than one fixture acting up at once. Water rises in the tub when the toilet flushes, the washing machine drain makes the shower back up, or every drain gurgles. A single slow sink is usually a branch clog near that fixture. If several drains are affected, stop running water and call us.

Are chemical drain cleaners safe to use?

We do not recommend them. Caustic drain openers can burn skin and eyes, they rarely reach a clog in the main line, and when they fail they leave a pool of chemical water for whoever opens the pipe next. A plunger is the safer first try for a single fixture. If that does not work, call us.

Why does my drain keep clogging?

A clog that comes back within weeks means the cause is still there. Common culprits are grease coating a kitchen line, roots growing into older sewer joints, a sag in the yard line that holds waste, and drain pipe with too little slope. A camera inspection shows which one you have, so the fix targets the cause instead of the symptom.

How often should drains be cleaned?

Most homes do not need scheduled cleaning if the drains are used with care. Kitchens that cook with a lot of grease, homes with big trees near the sewer line, and houses with a history of backups often do well with a routine cleaning about once a year. Restaurants and other commercial kitchens usually need it more often.

What is a cleanout and do I need one?

A cleanout is a capped opening that gives direct access to a drain or sewer line. The plumbing code Oklahoma uses calls for one where the building drain meets the building sewer. Many older homes have none, or it is buried, which means pulling a toilet to reach the main. An accessible cleanout makes every future cleaning quicker.
