Where pipes burst in Moore homes
A burst pipe needs two things: water standing in a line and air around it cold enough to freeze it. IBHS research puts the danger line for southern homes at about 20°F, and a bad Moore winter goes well past it. The Oklahoma Climatological Survey recorded minus 14°F in Oklahoma City, the next city north, on February 16, 2021.
The lines that split are usually the same ones from house to house. In Moore homes built from the 1960s through the 1980s, about half the city's housing per Census estimates, the weak points are usually supply lines in the garage wall, the line to an outdoor hose bib, and pipe on north or west exterior walls with little insulation. In newer two-story homes rebuilt after the tornadoes, it is often a PEX or CPVC line in the attic above the garage or a bonus room, where the insulation is thin and the soffits let cold air in.
Emergency burst pipe repair in Moore
The damage from a burst pipe comes from volume. IBHS puts numbers on it: an eighth-inch crack can let out upwards of 250 gallons in a single day. On a slab floor, that water has nowhere to drain. It spreads under carpet pad, laminate and baseboards, wicks up drywall and can reach rooms far from the break.
Our emergency burst pipe repair starts on the phone with stopping the water. On site, we open only as much drywall or ceiling as needed to reach the break, cut out the damaged section, and splice in new pipe with fittings rated for the material, strapped so it cannot sag or rub. Then we pressure test the run before you turn the water back on for good.
Once the plumbing is fixed, the drying starts. Pull up wet rugs and pad, run fans and call your insurer early. Drywall and the bottom of wall framing sitting on a slab can hold moisture for days, so if the water reached more than one room, a water mitigation company is worth calling too.
Emergency water leak repair after freezing
A freeze often damages more than the pipe that sprays. Fittings crack, valves split inside, and a section that held tonight may weep tomorrow. Our emergency water leak repair after freezing is the follow-up check that catches these:
- Pressure testing hot and cold lines after the obvious break is repaired
- Checking hose bibs, which often split inside the wall where you cannot see
- Inspecting the water heater connections and relief valve in garage installs
- Looking at the supply lines to washing machines and ice makers on outside walls
- Checking irrigation backflow preventers, which often crack above ground
How a burst pipe visit goes
- Stop the water. We confirm the main is closed and drain the affected lines.
- Find every break. We locate the split and check nearby pipe for more damage.
- Repair. Damaged pipe and fittings come out, and new pipe goes in, supported and protected.
- Test and document. We pressure test, restore water, and give you photos and notes for your insurer.
- Prevent the next one. Insulation, a rerouted line or a frost-free hose bib, as the situation calls for.
